DANCY

ALABAMA

I believe Dancy, Alabama, was named after Dr. Edwin C. Dancy, born 1810 in Edgecombe, North Carolina. Edwin was the son of William and Agnes Little Dancy. Dr. Dancy went from North Carolina to Mississippi (along with some Little's) and I think settled in Alabama in the 1820's. When it became Dancy, I do not know but there was a Post Office. Dr. Dancy owned most of the land including a large plantation. My great-grandfather was Lorenzo Dancy, son of Dr. Edwin Dancy. There is no town anymore but I remember when I was small,  my grandfather talked about Dancy. Apparently there was a hotel, and the train stopped there.
